BlueSky Commerce

UI Consultant

I worked for BlueSky Commerce on the Midwest Veterinary Supply project creating CSS code to make web pages adapt to fit all screens and devices.

Problem

Midwest Veterinary Supply(MVS) is the “Amazon” of the veterinary world. They offer an online platform for veterinary clinics to run their entire business.

MVS wanted a redesign of their eCommerce platform. Along with an admin section so clinics can manage staff, supplies, and allow pet owners to create accounts and schedule visits.

When I joined the team the MVS project was 75% complete. They needed a UI Developer to complete previously written JIRA tickets and fix the non-responsive front-end web pages generated by the back-end Java developers.

I worked on a laptop and loaded a VMWare virtual environment required by the client. Many times the Eclipse toolset inside the virtual machine would throw errors or lockup. Requiring me to stop work and troubleshoot or ask for help.

At the same time every JIRA ticket assigned to me was time-boxed and vaguely written. Which required me to ask my manager for clarity because I cannot hit an unspecified target.

It was a challenge to complete tasks under these conditions.

Solution

I collaborated with my manager to rewrite the custom HTML and CSS code to make sure the pages were responsive, adaptable, and mobile-friendly to meet QA requirements.

I received Photoshop files from the designer to compare the “look and feel” of each page. Along with a written document to ensure the labels and web copy was correct.

I attended daily meetings with the team to stay informed of the constant changes in priorities and direction of the project.

During the last part of the project we were forced to work from home due to the pandemic.
