Selling, Not Buying
2026-01-09
Recently, a few people replied to my LinkedIn comments with private messages trying to sell me products and services I did not ask for. They treated public comments as a chance to pitch me. That approach is frustrating and guarantees one result: I say no.
This happens most often with career coaches who offer resume rewrites and profile “optimizations.” They are not looking to hire me as a freelance designer, yet they expect me to hire them. That double standard is hard to miss. My time has value, and these messages waste it.
I want to be very clear. I am here to sell my products and services, not to shop. My work, pricing, and terms are already defined. If I want to buy something, I will look for it myself. I do not need to be chased, convinced, or pressured.
Some people also treat the word “no” as a challenge and keep pushing. That only makes things worse. A clear no is the end of the conversation, not the start of a sales debate.
I have spent many years working in customer service and sales. Those roles taught me how sales tactics work and how to spot them right away. Because of that experience, these tactics do not work on me. I am focused on selling my services, not buying someone else’s.
Please keep conversations respectful and on topic. Comments and messages are not invitations to pitch. Unsolicited sales offers will always receive a firm no.
